Testimony of a First Officer The first I heard about cabin air contamination was as a new FO; one day the captain brought the subject up, mentioning certain questionable air-conditioning issues with the aircraft - I disregarded the matter at the time, believing anything serious would have been addressed (or would be) by the regulator.
Now I sit at home in poor health having lost my licence; I have diminished mental faculties with which to retrain and am rather old to easily find alternative basic employment.
There is little or inadequate compensation and my employer dispensed with me as with a broken engine part. Nothing subsequently has been done to address the issue: crew and passengers alike continue to be poisoned when flying.
If you are currently concerned about the issue, start thinking about how you can save your health and career; it might even be worth forgoing the career if circumstances so prove. Read A Passenger's story: next testimony |
