German Ministry of Building, Transportation and Urban Development sees no need to study the potential hazardous effects of contaminated cabin air in aircraft.

The potential health hazards associated with contaminated cabin air in aircraft will not be investigated further according to the Ministry of Building, Transportation and Urban development despite the proposal made by the minority coalition of German Social Democratic Party together with the Alliance `90/Green Party. On Wednesday, the majority coalition of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, the Christian Social Union and the Free Democratic Party voted down the proposed bill.

The Social Democratic Party called for a comprehensive long term study investigating the toxic hazards of contaminated aircraft cabin air. Their application was for an independent study examining the contaminated cabin air and their effects on human health. The Green Party insisted that the Government adapt legislation to stop the use of Neurotoxins in Aircraft Engine Oil additives. Additionally the Green Party insists on legislation requiring that the aircraft construction be changed, so that outside air be compressed into the cabin for the aircraft pressurization.

The collation of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, the Christian Social Union and the Free Democratic Party based its rejection primarily, on the fact that there is currently no need for immediate action. Every year more than three million takeoffs and landings occur in Germany, only a few incidents have been reported and these are being investigated. The Social Democratic Party,  states that the incidents have been known for a long time, therefore the situation needs to be thoroughly investigated now.  Alliance 90/The Green Party also pointed out that there was an incident last year in which a crew member was incapacitated during flight. The Left Wing Party is of the opinion, that the points made by the minority coalition are founded and important. A Government spokesman stated that the European level is responsible for such matters.
